simple vanilla almond milk
This simple, almond milk is just as delicious as the real thing!
Whether you’re lactose intolerant or prefer to avoid dairy, you’re going to love this very simple almond milk recipe. Almonds are a source of monounsaturated fatty acids. These fatty acids or MUFA’s can help curb cravings, fight insulin resistance, help you lose weight and improve heart health.
I recommend soaking the almonds for 12 - 24 hours for a creamier almond milk. You can also try adding different combinations of spices to mix things up. Or keep it simple by adding a pinch of cinnamon.
One of my favourite recipes is a healthy chocolate milk.
Just add 3 - 4 tbsps of cocoa (or cacao) powder and a splash of maple syrup to the recipe below and you’ve got yourself a nutritious homemade chocolate milk.
Ingredients
4 cups filtered water
1 cup almonds, soaked overnight in the fridge
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Dash of cinnamon (optional)
3 - 4 tbsps of cacao or cocoa powder (if making chocolate milk)
Splash of maple syrup (optional)
Add all the ingredients into a high speed blender.
Begin blending on low and work your way up to the highest setting. Blend on high for approximately 60 seconds.
Strain through a milk bag.
Store in a 1 litre glass jar in the fridge.
The almond milk will last for up to 4 days.
Makes 4 cups.
