Simple Matcha latte

Matcha is green tea leaves that have been ground down into a powder. Traditionally, matcha is consumed on it’s own but it has an earthy flavour that pairs nicely with a splash of 100% real Canadian maple syrup. Matcha is a signature drink in the health and wellness community. As it should be!

The benefits matcha hold are exceptional. It’s a source of caffeine and also contains the amino acid, l-theanine, which has a calming effect. You get the boost in energy from the caffeine but avoid the jitters and crash you may experience with regular coffee. Matcha also contains chlorophyll which aids the body in detoxification.

Matcha is best enjoyed in the morning or early afternoon (if you aren’t sensitive to caffeine). The combination of vanilla and maple syrup make for a delicious latte, a perfect start to any, or every day.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp organic Japanese matcha (I use Soar Organics)

  • 1/4 cup hot water

  • 1 cup homemade almond milk

  • 1/2 - 1 tsp maple syrup

  • 1/8 tsp pure vanilla extract

  1. Boil water and allow to sit for 1 - 2 minutes.

  2. Add the matcha to a mug and pour a small amount of water over top of the matcha.

  3. Whisk the matcha and water until the matcha turns frothy.

  4. Warm the almond milk on the stove.

  5. Remove from the heat and add the matcha, maple syrup and vanilla. Stir or blend together.

Enjoy!
